Psoriasis: The long lasting road to recovery

Psoriasis is a persistent skin disorder which causes red, flaky, itchy, crusty and often painful patches of skin covered with silvery scales. It affects up to three per cent of UK’s population myself included.
After trying out conventional medicines to treat this condition for quite a few years, I initially noticed some improvements but eventually I became resistant to all these treatments and decided to try natural alternatives instead. Some worked better than others so I compiled this list of things that have helped me in hope that it might bring you some benefits too as follow:
Improve your digestion
Poor digestion creates toxins that may contribute to psoriasis. To improve your digestion you may want to try Enzyme Digest containing Peppermint oil.
These are known to help support the body's ability to receive nutrients from food by assisting in the breakdown of carbohydrates and protein obtained from your diet.
Fermented foods are something you might want to look into to gently bring your inner ecosystem back into a state of balance.
Reduce Inflammation
Taking Omega 3 essential fatty acids helps to reduce the inflammation compound involved in psoriasis. At least twice a week eat cold water fish such as salmon, sardines, mackerel and take a flaxseed oil blend such as Viridian 100% Organic Ultimate Beauty Oil.
Sunshine
Sunbathing several times a week can often help to heal scaly patches. Be sure to protect your skin with a SPF sunscreen. If the weather is too hot try to keep away between 11am and 2pm when the sun burning rays are the strongest.
Therapeutic baths
Dead Sea Salts baths are an effective and natural treatment to relieve psoriasis. These salts are recognised as a wonderful alternative therapy offering long term relief not to mention it’s a great way to end the day!
Herbal detox
Sarsaparilla helps detoxify the body and its tea has a long history use for treating skin conditions such as psoriasis.
Change your body from within
Consider having a look at your lifestyle and diet and make some changes. You will definitely see an improvement if you are consistent so, to start with I highly recommend you read Healing Psoriasis - The Natural Alternative by John Pagano. Your skin is a reflection of your inner health so start there!
Non toxic skincare
Another way I found permanent skin relief was by switching my petroleum and steroid based cream to natural ones without the toxic elements. During my years of experiments I discovered what ingredients were most effective and designed balms and body butters with them. By using these my skin saw an amazing improvement that lead me to start my own skincare range that you can purchase here on my online shop www.alexaskybotanicals.co.uk
When buying skincare look for ingredients that can help calm, soothe and heal your skin such as the following oils Chamomile, Calendula, Rosehip, Argan, Aloe vera, Shea butter are some of the few!
Last note
No cure happens overnight and it took me between 6 to 12 months to see psoriasis gone and I did experience recurrences but with my persistence on practising the steps above it really payed off. I am happy to say that I am able to lead a normal life and enjoy it! I also would like to add that if you have other health issues or are not sure the above steps are for you please consult your GP before embarking on any changes.
Sending you skin love xx
